Asus ZenBook 14 UX425E brand is saying goodbye to accessibility luxury, and the UX425 is the latest model to emerge with brushed metal and sleek design associated with these machines. The most interesting thing here is – it’s internal. This Zenbook was one of the first laptops we saw with one of Intel’s Tiger Lake CPUs.

The chip core of choice is the i7-1165G7, which has become one of the most popular Tiger Lake offerings – it already appears on most laptops and the previous i7-1065G7 is everywhere.

We have a detailed review of this new laptop CPU, however, in a nutshell, the new Core i7 promises better build process and performance improvements when it comes to clock speed – with support for new features like Thunderbolt 4, PCI. E4.0 and integrated graphics improved.

However it is an age of competition in the laptop market. Intel is making big claims about its new chip, but CPUs like AMD’s Raizen 5 4500U and Raizen 7 4700U are ready to compete with Intel, and other machines are still successful with the i7-1065G7.

The Genbook 14 is configured as our model unit (16GB RAM / 1TB SSD), priced at around 0,099, the base $ 899 version comes with half the memory and storage capacity.

Features and design

The UX425 is a Zenbook. The lid is made from an alloy of aluminum and is finished in a smart, micro-centered circle centered around the shiny, off-center Asus logo. Opening the machine reveals more mixture in the same dark shade. The shape is smooth, with a thin front edge and a thin bezel on both sides of the screen. You can easily open the laptop with your fingers.

The back has a modest ergolift hinges, the keyboard is turned towards the user and the underside is low with a wide air vent and four rubber legs. The ergolift design means the bottom bezel is slightly chunky and does not allow the display to be completely flat.

The ZenBook weighs 2.49 pounds and is only 13.9 mm thick, so it is thin and light enough to fit in your bag. The build quality is reasonable, highlighted with a strong base, but this is an area where the mid-range price of the Genbook is clearly visible – the screen is solidly structured, with more movement at the top edge.

This is not a serious cause for concern, but remember if you are going to take this machine out of the house. Adhering to Genbook’s MIL-STD-810G standards is even more reassuring. This means the machine can withstand drops, vibrations and extreme temperatures, so it must be neat to handle everyday life.

On the left are two USB-C ports that support the Thunderbolt 4. Which can provide up to 40 GB / s, and the Zenbook’s USB-C port, which is also used for charging. The HDMI output is on the left. On the right are a microSD card slot and a full-size USB 3.2 Gen 1 port. That USB port has a modest maximum bandwidth of more than 5GB / s. Asus ZenBook 14 UX425E Review.

There is one big flaw when it comes to connectivity – no headphone jack. It’s better if you use wireless audio gear, but this is not a problem if you are still using wired headphones. Asus has a USB-C-to-audio adapter, which is a helpful but somewhat clumsy solution. Once you have plugged in the adapter and charger, this is for USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. Above the display is a 720p webcam that works with Windows Hello. The quality is not great – it’s good for business calls and family, but that’s all. The keyboard shortcut can be used to turn off the webcam, but there is no physical privacy shutter. This machine does not even have a fingerprint reader.

Genbooks have good design, but they can give people a reason to look elsewhere for flaws and its subtle design. We recently reviewed the Acer Swift 3, for example, it costs 0 1,099 when configured with the Prime-Gen Core i7 and when loaded with the Raizen 7 4700U, it was only 35 835. This rig offers good build quality and bright aluminum design, but no Thunderbolt 4, Iris graphics or light-up trackpad.

If you want to expand the 43 to 1,439, you can configure the Dell XPS13 with its 11th-gen CPU and its stunning frame that combines aluminum and carbon fiber. That machine also has a Thunderbolt 4. Asus ZenBook 14 UX425E Review.

A button in the upper-right corner of the trackpad activates the Asus NumberPad 2.0, which places the virtual number pad on top of the trackpad. Using the main functionality of the trackpad you can click the pad to use the numbers – it easily separates the two.

The buttons on the keyboard are wide and large, with a clear font and a nice 1.4mm travel. This is an impressive unit – the hinges are slightly concave and have a slightly rubbery surface, so they hold the fingers well and the typing action is fast and balanced. It is crisp and well suited for long typing sessions. The only trouble is the noise because they are not quiet at all.

The trackpad is extensive and has functional functionality – it has multi-touch gesture support along with the number pad above. The glass surface is smooth and responsive, and the two buttons are sharp and shallow.

The ZenBook may have a deeper sense of the new Core i7 CPU and exterior style, but the 0 1,099 price is quite affordable. This means the display is modest – it’s a 14 “1080p IPS panel, but it’s not a touch.
